OEM - Florida is the locale for manufacturers that design and produce products used in telecommunications, computer peripherals, industrial and instrumentation (includes medical) applications.

Contract Manufacturing (CMS or EMS)- In the last decade Florida has become a haven for EMS providers. With low land acquisition costs, low unionization, significant technical talent, no state income tax, low corporate taxes and moderate wages, Florida's EMS industry has grown such that this market segment represents almost 60% of the electronic components consumed in the State. There are at least 55 contract manufacturers in Florida.

Military - This segment is still very active in Florida. It includes leading military defense subcontractors such as Lockheed-Martin, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Honeywell, Smiths Industries, Harris, L-3 Communications and Rockwell International. There are also several EMS providers who concentrate in this market such as Sypris and Sparton.

Distribution - With such a large portion of the manufacturing of electronic products being produced by EMS providers, distribution very actively supports these companies. EMS companies generally prefer distribution as strategic supply chain partners because of distributions value added offerings such as bonded inventory, kitting services, extended billing terms, virtual warehousing and tolerance for multiple shipments with a lot of rescheduling.
